Lisa, Larry and Inland Connemaras

The dream…

Born with a love for horses, but being a city kid, my first opportunity to ride was around the age of 10 on Shetland ponies followed by purchasing my first horse, Charlie, a quarter type grade gelding when I was 16. From there, I pursued an equine degree from the University of Wisconsin at River Falls, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with an emphasis on horse production.

The reality…

After college, horses took a backseat as I began a career in the laboratory specializing in protein purification, analytical and clinical diagnostics. I remained in contact with the horse world taking dressage lessons whenever possible. About 20 years ago, my dressage trainer introduced me to the Connemara pony. I fell in love with the breed and all of the great qualities these ponies have to offer. They have fantastic temperaments, stamina and athleticism, what more could you ask for? My first connemara was Century Hills Kieron followed by Newmont Isadora Duncan and Wildwych O’Farrell. I was told once that Connemara ponies are much like potato chips—You can’t stop at one. This has proved to be true!

The opportunity…

After several of life’s little up’s and down’s, the major “Up” being reconnecting with Larry Wied, an old high school friend, we had the opportunity to purchase a small acreage. This would allow us to focus on a small breeding program with the goal of promoting this wonderful breed, and preserving the small gene pool by offering a stallion from the red line (Connemara Boy) who is a nice outcross for North America.

Since Larry is now retired from his career in IT, he will be managing the day to day operations for the farm and breeding program.
